On this day, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed a
founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In
2012, at the behest of the African Union (AU), South Africa will be hosting the African Diaspora summit.
The Africa Diaspora summit will assure a consummation of the relationship between the African continent,
the Diaspora and the Caricom countries on May 25th 2012. The official induction of the CARICOM countries
and the Diaspora as
the Sixth Region of the Continent will be consummated on May 25th
2012.
Heads of State and governments from 54 African countries, the CARICOM and the Diaspora will descend
on South African soil for this all important commemoration.
Africa
has been grouped or divided into 5 sub-regions. The consensus among African
leaders is that Africa
would not have come a full circle without the integration of the Diaspora and the CARICOM region,
hence the creation of the "Sixth Region".
In
commemoration of the official induction of our brothers and sisters from the
CARICOM
countries and Diaspora as a Sixth Region,the South African Consulate in Los Angeles with the
support of the diverse African and honorary consulates in Los Angeles, Vuvuzela Foundation,
African Times, Immigrant Magazine, African Trumpet, the Caribpress, MoneyGram International,
Image Global and other African loving businesses and vendors is hosting the
African Diaspora summit on Africa Day on May 25th 2012.
The next day May 26th will witness the Africa @ a glance Festival.
The Africa day festival in Los Angeles will showcase the various cultures and
traditions of the diverse African communities in USA in general and Los Angeles in particular.
It also offers an opportunity to celebrate the heritage and identity of African Communities living in California.
The aim of the day is also raise public awareness of investment opportunities in Africa and how
the Diaspora can be part of such vast investment opportunities. The spiritual and economic
well being of people across the Diaspora, the Caribbean and the continent as a whole will be a subject of exploration.
